Black Rosie Media contributor Brian Fleurantin also recaps two community events featuring Nyara Sabally. Below, you can read Brian's feature, but first, let's recap a few things about Nyara.

Getting to Know Nyara Sabally

As Brian mentions, Nyara had to overcome injuries throughout her young career. She even suffered a concussion at the 2024 Paris Olympics before returning to compete in the Quarterfinals. Although Germany lost the game, they put the world stage on notice.

"Qualifying for the Olympics, being in the Olympics, and getting as far as we did for the first time ever really means a lot."

She played alongside Liberty teammate Leonie FIebich and her older sister, Satou. Sabally and Leonie Fiebich followed up their Olympic run with a championship with the New York Liberty. They both played significant minutes in Game 5 overtime and made a case to be impact players for New York for years to come.

And if you want to know what Nyara thinks about rumors her sister could join her on the Liberty roster, be sure to watch her interview here.

"I know she's gonna do amazing."

Brian and I will dive deeper into Sabally on the next episode of Gotta Get Up: A Podcast for New York Liberty fans. So, be sure to tap in on Friday at 12:30 PM ET.

It’s the holiday season, and for the New York Liberty, it’s the Season of Giving!

The WNBA champs have been active in the community for many years, and their annual Season of Giving campaign is always a highlight. This year, Nyara Sabally and the Liberty held a free basketball clinic at Basketball City and visited kids at the Lerner Children's Pavilion wing of the Hospital for Special Surgery.

At both events, we got to see Sabally interact with the kids and provide memories they’ll never forget. She talked about her journey and how she was able to persevere through her surgeries and injuries.

At HSS, I asked her about how perseverance has helped her throughout her journey, and she said:

“I feel like that's one of the strongest characteristics that I have because I've had so many injuries and there was always something. So being able to give these kids some tips means a lot because it is really hard to look forward to and past all the injuries, but it is something I feel like I've grown at a lot.

I always say I'm not glad it happened, but it did really shape me into the person I am now. And who knows if I would be sitting here right now if that didn't happen… It has a way of working itself out.”

Nyara has been through a lot in her young career, but she has continued to make strides every single day. She’s a star on the court and someone the fans have built a strong connection with off the court.
